Consumer Cellular: New Plans Include Unlimited for Seniors – Technologist

Consumer Cellular (Team Clark’s Review) has added a fifth single-line plan to its monthly lineup: 20GB of high-speed data for $45. Additionally, the existing $50 unlimited plan is now exclusively available to customers ages 50+. Multiline unlimited plans are still available to all customers.

In this article, I’ll take a closer look at Consumer Cellular’s newest plan lineup including what’s available, what you’ll get for the price and how they compare to other affordable cell phone plans.

Consumer Cellular’s New Cell Phone Plans

Until now, Consumer Cellular has offered four monthly cell phone plans ranging from $35 for 1GB of high-speed data to $50 for 50GB of high-speed data. After the most recent changes, single-line accounts can now choose from five monthly plans:

  • 1GB of high-speed data for $20
  • 5GB of high-speed data for $25
  • 10GB of high-speed data for $35
  • 20GB of high-speed data for $45 (new plan)
  • 50GB of high-speed data for $50 (now only available to customers ages 50+)

AARP members are still eligible for a 5% discount on any monthly plan.

While Consumer Cellular’s unlimited plan (50GB high-speed) is no longer available to customers under the age of 50 with a single line of service, it is still available to all customers as a multiline plan. You can find the following multiline plans available under Consumer Cellular’s Special Plan Offerings:

  • Unlimited for Ages 18+ requires at least two lines and includes 50GB of high-speed data before reduced speeds. For two lines, the plan costs $70/month. For three lines, it costs $90/month.
  • Unlimited for Ages 50+ requires age verification and includes 50GB of high-speed data before reduced speeds. The plan costs $50/month for one line, $60/month for two lines or $80/month for three lines.
  • Unlimited for AARP requires an AARP membership, at least two lines and age verification (50+). It also includes 50GB of high-speed data before reduced speeds. Unlimited for AARP costs $55/month for two lines or $75/month for three lines.

Consumer Cellular: The Best Cell Phone Service Provider for Seniors

If you aren’t familiar with Consumer Cellular, it’s a postpaid cell phone service provider that partners with AT&T to provide coverage to its customers.

Plans begin as low as $20/month for unlimited talk, text and 1GB of high-speed data. The unlimited plan costs $50 for one line and comes with 50GB of high-speed data before reduced speeds; however, this plan is only available on a single line to customers ages 50+. Other affordable cell phone service providers that run on AT&T’s network also offer competitively-priced plans; however, Consumer Cellular stands out for its excellent customer service.

According to the most recent J.D. Power U.S. Wireless Customer Care Study, Consumer Cellular ranks higher than all other phone service providers. Additionally, Consumer Reports surveyed over 51,000 members in 2023 and found that Consumer Cellular scored significantly higher than all other service providers. Consumer Cellular scored nearly perfect in all categories: value, customer support, data and reception.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index tells the same story reporting that “Consumer Cellular, once again, outperforms value MVNOs and all other carriers.” You can see how Consumer Cellular’s customer service compares to other phone service providers here.

Excellent customer service partnered with affordable plan prices is why Consumer Cellular earned the best cell phone plan for seniors award on Clark.com.

I tested Consumer Cellular myself by trying out its most affordable phone plan for 30 days, and I had a great experience. To learn more before you decide to switch, read my full Consumer Cellular review.
