Mint Mobile Deal: Unlimited Service for $15/Month First Year – Technologist
Through January 2, new customers can get Mint Mobile’s annual unlimited phone plan for $180 upfront— only $15/month! That’s a $180 discount compared to its regular yearly price.
In this article, I’ll take a closer look at Mint Mobile’s latest deal including what you’ll get for the price and how it compares to other affordable unlimited phone plans.
Save $180 on Mint Mobile’s Unlimited Cell Phone Plan
Mint Mobile (Team Clark’s Review) offers any plan for $15/month for the first three months to new customers. After the first three months, plan rates vary depending on whether you prepay for three months, six months or a year in advance.
Mint Mobile’s annual unlimited plan typically costs $30/month ($360 upfront). However, if you switch to Mint Mobile before January 2, you can get the same annual unlimited plan for $15/month ($180) for the first year. That’s a 50% savings compared to the plan’s regular rate!
Here’s what you’ll get with Mint Mobile’s unlimited plan:
- Unlimited nationwide talk, text and data
- 40GB high-speed data before throttled speeds
- Typical download speeds: 79-357 Mbps
- Access to T-Mobile’s 5G & 4G LTE networks
- 10GB mobile hotspot
- Free calling to Mexico & Canada
- Wi-Fi Calling
To get this deal, you can bring your own unlocked phone to save the most money. Alternatively, you can buy a new phone from Mint Mobile. Additionally, you may choose to get a new phone number when you join or port your existing number.
This deal is only available to new customers who join Mint Mobile on the unlimited annual plan by January 2. After your first year, plan rates will return to normal. Mint Mobile: An Affordable T-Mobile MVNO
If you aren’t familiar with Mint Mobile, it’s an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that runs on T-Mobile’s towers. It provides access to the same service and 5G network (on capable devices) for a fraction of the price.
If you have service in your area from T-Mobile, you’ll likely also be covered by Mint Mobile. Other resellers and MVNOs that use T-Mobile’s towers include Tello Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, US Mobile, Google Fi Wireless and more.
When you purchase a plan from Mint Mobile, you’ll have to pay for at least three months of service in advance. That brings the plan prices (at regular rates) to $75-$120 upfront ($25-$40/month), and you’ll be covered for 90 days from activation. Additionally, you can prepay for six months or a year in advance to get better overall prices.
Compared to T-Mobile itself, you’ll find an excellent price with Mint Mobile’s phone plans. T-Mobile’s unlimited postpaid plans start at $50/month for one line with autopay. While you’ll get more high-speed data and additional postpaid benefits, you’ll find a better price with Mint Mobile’s unlimited plan ($15/month for the first year with the current promotion, then $30/month when prepaid annually at regular rates). Other plans from Mint Mobile begin as low as $15/month at regular rates (5GB annual plan).
Compared to other prepaid plans, Mint Mobile’s prices are still competitive. This is especially true with the current new customer offer bringing 12 months of unlimited service to $180 ($15/month). Even after the promotion expires, Mint Mobile’s $30/month regular annual unlimited plan rate is still very competitive. To compare, here are a few unlimited plans from other affordable providers on T-Mobile’s network:
- US Mobile (Review): Monthly unlimited plans begin at $25 for 35GB of premium data with Unlimited Starter. Annual unlimited plans begin at $210 ($17.50/month) for 10GB of premium data with Unlimited Flex. Choose the “Light Speed” network to access T-Mobile’s towers.
- Tello Mobile (Review): Monthly unlimited plans begin at $25 for 35GB of high-speed data followed by unlimited reduced speeds. Tello’s newest plan, Unlimited Plus, is available for $35/month with 45GB of high-speed data.
- Metro by T-Mobile (Review): Single-line accounts that port an existing phone number can get an unlimited 5G plan for $25/month. Regular single-line unlimited plans begin at $50/month online with autopay, but multiline discounts are available.
- Google Fi Wireless (Review): Simply Unlimited typically costs $50/month for one line. However, now through January 7, new customers can bring their own phone and get the same plan for $25/month the first six months.
