Tracfone Wireless’ New Plans Include 2x More High-Speed Data – Technologist

This month, Tracfone Wireless announced that all cell phone plans with unlimited talk & text will now include twice the amount of high-speed data. The prices for Tracfone’s plans aren’t changing, which means customers will now have access to more high-speed data for the same price!

In this article, I’ll take a closer look at Tracfone’s latest changes including how much high-speed data you’ll now get with each plan and how the new lineup compares to other affordable cell phone service providers.

Tracfone Wireless’ New Cell Phone Plans

Trafone Wireless (Team Clark’s Review) offers five different cell phone plans that include unlimited talk & text. Recently, Tracfone upgraded each of these plans to include double the amount of high-speed data.

Now, here’s how much data you’ll get with each plan:

High-Speed Data/Month 1 Month Plan 3 Month Plan 6 Month Plan 12 Month Plan
1GB (up from 0GB) $15 $41 ($13.60/month) $77 ($12.80/month) $144 ($12/month)
4GB (up from 2GB) $20 $54 ($18/month) $102 ($17/month) $192 ($16/month)
6GB (up from 3GB) $25 $68 ($22.60/month) $128 ($21.30/month) $240 ($20/month)
10GB (up from 5GB) $30 $81 ($27/month) $153 ($25.50/month) $288 ($24/month)
20GB (up from 10GB) $40 $108 ($36/month) $204 ($34/month) $384 ($32/month)

Additionally, each plan now supports mobile hotspot (data is pulled from your monthly high-speed data allotment). Previously, mobile hotspot was only available to customers on the $40 plan.

Tracfone Wireless: An Affordable Verizon Wireless MVNO

If you aren’t familiar with Trafone Wireless, it’s a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that runs on Verizon Wireless’ network. If Verizon has strong service in your area, you’ll likely be covered with Tracfone Wireless since they use the same towers.

Tracfone’s monthly plans begin at only $15 for unlimited talk, text and 1GB of high-speed data. If you sign up for auto-refill, you can get a $5 discount on any monthly plan for the first two months. For this plan, that brings the price to only $10!

Compared to postpaid plans directly from Verizon Wireless, Tracfone’s plans are extremely affordable. Verizon’s unlimited plans begin at $65 for one line with autopay. While Tracfone doesn’t offer any truly unlimited plans, you can get 20GB of high-speed data for $40/month. If you prepay annually, the same plan becomes $32/month. That’s half the price of Verizon’s most affordable postpaid plan!

However, other Verizon MVNOs offer better deals for light data users and unlimited plans. For example, here are a few of our favorite affordable plans from other service providers on Verizon’s network:

  • US Mobile (Team Clark’s Review): US Mobile offers a Light Plan for $10/month or $96/year ($8/month) for 2GB of high-speed data. Monthly unlimited plans begin at $25 for 35GB of premium data plus 10GB mobile hotspot. Annually, US Mobile’s unlimited plans begin at $210 ($17.50/month) for 10GB of high-speed data plus 5GB mobile hotspot, which is a better deal than Tracfone’s annual 10GB plan for $288.
  • Visible (Team Clark’s Review): Visible’s unlimited plans begin at $25/month or $275/year ($22.92/month) for unlimited data and mobile hotspot. However, mobile hotspot speeds are reduced to 5Mbps with Visible’s basic unlimited plan.
  • Total Wireless (Team Clark’s Review): Total Wireless offers unlimited plans beginning at $40, which is the same price as Tracfone’s 20GB plan. With Total Wireless, you’ll get truly unlimited data plus 5GB mobile hotspot.
